Tune a five-string bass to B E A D G, including the low B0 fundamental, with the complete browser tuner already set for five strings.
A low-B five-string extends the standard four-string range downward while retaining the familiar E A D G layout above it. The extra string adds notes below E1 and lets players reach some low positions without shifting as far along the neck.
The B0 string vibrates slowly and needs a stable, clear pluck. Keep the microphone near the instrument, mute adjacent strings, and wait briefly after the attack for the pitch to settle. If B0 sounds indistinct even when tuned, string condition, gauge, scale length, and setup may be contributing factors.
Start with the low B and lock the tuner to B0 if the string is far away. Use a moderate pluck near the middle of the string rather than striking so hard that the initial pitch bends sharp.
The fifth fret of the low B should match the open E1. Continue the same fifth-fret comparison from E to A, A to D, and D to G. The B string's twelfth-fret harmonic should also sit exactly one octave above the open B0.
All five strings are separated by perfect fourths, so familiar four-string patterns continue across the added low string. The challenge is not a new interval system but producing and hearing the very low B fundamental clearly enough to tune it reliably.
